While we are waiting for updates, do any of the nasty allies want to call out any of the heroes of the Axis?

Depends on if Aaron is allowed to change companies.

Can we switch Companies between battles?

I don't see a big problem with it.  Anybody else have an idea?

A note on scenarios...  take a moment to check out the special rules for scenarios, and for deployment.  They can have a drastic affect on the game, and are sometimes a bit counter-intuitive.

Chris, I hate to say it but I was wrong about not being able to move 'on the double' when you come in from reserves.  That was an artifact that was in my head from a special scenario from one of the theater books.  My bad.  It may be best that neither of us did it, getting tagged while on the double really hurts.

It seemed there was close good games all around last night, I would be able to say more, but sorta got tunnel vision trying to dig Jason's F/V American Paratroopers outta there holes...close run thing, that. we both lost our company command, I think we were both a few stands away from breaking.

For sure.  I don't think I realized just how close you were.  If I had gone after the AA cars with all 5 bazookas and taken them out that would have been a CO check for you since you started with 7 platoons after losing the arty, correct?

I think we should run with the concept that the challenger is the attacker in games.  That is my feeling anyway.

Jason...yep, I was close, if you could have gotten my combat platoon to bolt, and my Nimrods....of course IF I could have gotten your damn fearless bastards to run, you would have bolted...

I had 7 platoons, you still would have need to eliminate 4 for me to be over 50%

Aaron...that sounds like it would work

I went back thru the campaign book today.  Here's what I found on battles:

1.  Find an opponent.

2.  Roll for initiative.  Ties go to the Russians (this is for the  '44 Bagration game)

3.  Put down a red arrow on the map from the area you are attacking from to the area you're attacking into.

4.  Determine the scenario.

5.  Play the game as a normal FoW game.

So we didn't do it quite right for the first turn......

Comments? Thoughts? Ideas?

I think that the system set up where tank platoons always attack infantry platoons, ect., is important in the meta-gamed sense.  However, if there is a situation where a roll off is required b/c a tank co is fighting a tank co or an infantry co is attacking an infantry co then I think the player with the initiative should definitely be the attacker.

Hello,
The Festerplatz rules on page 21 of the firestorm campaign book state the german player may choose to be the defender if the soviets are attacking across a fortified line or into a german held city.  This gives the germans extra fortifications to add to their force.  The fact that they can choose in this specific situation implies that the normal attacker/defender rules are used otherwise?

It is very tough for infantry to attack armor in missions that allow full defender deployment.  And very tough for an armor company of limited platoons to defend if they start with most of their force off table in reserve.  The special 'always attacks' rules for some of the soviet forces partially complements this also.

Most of you don't know me as I just stop by every couple of months or so, but I think I'll be able to start making it up on a couple Thursdays a month and maybe participate in the campaign.

Aaron & I had a very close game.  The mission was breakthrough with Aaron playing a pioneer co.  He was able to make a concerted push into the objective zone with all 3 of his combat platoons.  A well timed Truscott Trot had my 3 combat and engineer platoon waiting for him, but I was a bit battered from both moving under fire from some Luchs and AA as well as sitting under a ranged in 105 battery.  In the end, my engineers wouldn't get out of their holes to assist a platoon holding an objective.  That platoon just wasn't up to the tasks of fending off one of Aaron's assaults or retaking the objective.  Some other memorable moments was the 37mm bazookas and one platoon taking 2 Luchs and both AAs as well as Aaron pushing up his HMGs to out some serious fire on my mortars.

Again, any allies want to get challenges out there, so we can get games going ASAP Thursday?
