As an attendee and game master, I prefer the single price structure.  I think this is a more common approach for conventions.  The conventions with per event price structures that I've been to (Adepticon, GenCon) have been less pleasant.  It's really clear at those conventions how the organizers feel about the events that bring in less money.  For what its worth, I'm not interested in tournaments.

I don't envy anyone who joins Jeff and Dan's forum if they are as pleasant there as they have been when I've gamed with them.

The price structure for this past LW was $35.00 broken down as follows:  $25.00 for a 3-day pass to the convention.  $10.00 for HMGS-MW membership.  If you didn't want an HMGS-MW membership it was $40.00 for all three days.  I didn't think this was a particularly good idea but I was out voted.
There has never been a per-event charge.  The price of admission is all-inclusive.    Once you're inside you can game your brains out.  The rate for a 1 day pass was $20.00 I think.

How does this compare with Adepticon?  I haven't attended one although I know they do charge for specific events.

Yeah, I think the all-inclusive charge kills revenue.

Adepticon is based on a door pass and event fee structure. For example, this year I would have had to pay $35 for the pass, $15 for the FOW EW tournie, and $5 for a Leviathans demo (this was one of the few that charged, normally demos are free) but, since I did setup and ran the Necromunda tournie, that was comped.

The event fee structure is set up so that longer, more involved events are pricier (the 40K Team tournie and Championships being the most expensive) while smaller events are cheaper. My Necromunda tournie fee was $10 per player but that paid for plaques and prizes for every player who entered.

It does have its disadvantages though.

How is the pricing structure for LW? If it $40 at the door and that's it or do you pay the door fee plus individual event costs?

     None taken.
It would be nice if we could comp the gamemasters / tournament organizers.  They go to a lot of expense and effort to run events.  No one has put forth a cogent plan on how to execute the idea.  Members of the board of directors have talked with other convention managers, particularly in HMGS - East.  Unofficially, its a can of worms they wish they hadn't opened.  When it was tried in the past at Little Wars it didn't work well.
The BoD is going to meet again in June.  If you would like to make a proposal to the board here's what I'd be looking for:

 1.  Who you're going to have help you run the program.
 2.  How you're going to ensure the games are actually run.
 3.  How you're going to ensure the games are "quality"  and not just some lichen, half-painted troops, and books for hills.
 4.  Who gets comped?  Is there actually a need for  "X" numbers of helpers who absolutely must be admitted free too.
 5.  Lastly, as Treasurer, how do you propose to make up for the loss of revenue? Raise prices at the door?  Raise vendor prices?  Raise flea market prices?  You'll need to justify this to to board against the "everybody pays a little" philosophy.

Keep in mind that Adepticon is a business run for profit.  Little Wars is completely staffed by volunteers.

No offense intended and I'm sorry if I came off that way.

But, I've still never heard of a con that charges event organizers to attend. Just from an outside perspective, not knowing much at all about LW, what's in it for the tournie organizer? I'm not trying to be facetious, but honestly why would your average organizer do that? As someone who's run tournies and knows the work and time that goes into them, it doesn't seem like there's any incentive to do so if you have to pay money on top of that.

There has to be some way to at least comp an organizer's entry fee. Adepticon does it, and then some. Maybe ask around to some of the other cons and ask how they do it?

It's either that or go broke.  The alternatives are:  Charge more at the door, say go from 40.00 for 3 days of gaming for non-members to, what, $60.00 and accept the decline in attendance and spiral down.  Fewer attendees, fewer vendors.   Or, gouge the vendors and make it less and less affordable for them to attend.  The current board's philosophy is that "everybody pays a little" with the goal of "little" being as little as possible.  As a result we've operated at a slight loss for the past 6 years.  If you've got suggestions on who to screw in order to let gamemasters (and all the other volunteers who help run the convention - like me) in for free, I'm all ears.  Let's figure on $2000.00.  Better yet, put a slate together and run for the board.  The current board is done in 2 years.

Still assinine?  Write me a check.

Wait...organizers have to pay admission even if they are running an event at Little Wars!?  ??? That's the most asinine thing I've heard all day.

So Jason couldn't take the FAMO recovery in Round 1 since it's a Transport...anyone know whether a Bergepanther is a Tank or Transport team?

I'd imagine it's a tank team, being a tank and all that...thoughts?
